Abstract: | Single crystals of semiorganic nonlinear gamma glycine have been successfully synthesized by taking glycine and calcium chloride grown by slow evaporation method using water as a solvent. The gamma phase was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Presence of various functional groups of gamma glycine was identified by Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectrum. Its nonlinear optical property has been tested by Kurtz powder technique. Its optical behavior was examined by Ultraviolet-vis spectrum and found that the crystal is transparent in the region between 245–1100 nm. Hence it may be very much useful for the second harmonic generation (SHG) applications. Its mechanical behavior has been assessed by Vickers microhardness measurements. Thermal analysis was performed to study the thermal stability of the grown crystals. |
