dc.description.abstract | This paper examines the relationship between property crime and development focusing on financial and fiscal indicators. This study provides a comparative analysis between North-East and South-West regions in India. As per geographical position of states this study has selected two regionsin India: North East (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura) and South West (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh). Per capita GSDP is an indicator of development which plays a significant role for reduction of property crime rate in both regions. However, C-D ratio, the indicator of financial development, helps to reduce property crime in South-West region only. Industrial worker is taken as proxy for urbanization which reflects the negative impact on property crime in South West while positive in North East region. This study focuses on fiscal indicators like own tax and own non-tax. The findings suggest that tax imposition may reduce the property crime in some cases. | en_US |
