dc.description.abstractThe present dissertation deals with the problems concerning the fate of the Scheduled Tribes in West Bengal between the years 1947 and 2011. It analyses this steps that have been taken by both the Centre and State Governments in this regard. A brief review of the existing literature on the subject serves as a Foreword to the discussion. The different viewpoints that have been advanced from time to time with regard to the policy to be under taken towards the tribal population of India have also been discussed a length. We have examined the measures undertaken by the State and Central Government with regard to the Scheduled Tribes of India under the following heads;- economy, education, health and social security. A concluding chapter rounds off the discussion.en_US
